On July 25, HCPA hosted a conference call with product manufacturers, NGOs, state and local government officials, and other stakeholders in the EPA’s Safer Choice program to discuss developments in U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) appropriations proposals being considered by Congress. While the Trump administration’s budget proposal for FY2019 again sought to strike funding for EPA’s Office of Pollution Prevention & Toxics (OPPT, which houses the Safer Choice program), legislators on Capitol Hill have responded by maintaining current funding levels for OPPT in the appropriations packages moving through Congress. HCPA has consistently communicated its support for the Safer Choice program to the EPA, including in a meeting with former EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt in 2017 and by co-hosting EPA’s Safer Choice Partner & Stakeholder Summit at HCPA’s Mid-Year Meeting in May.
